ABOUT ME

I am a wife, a mother of two amazing kiddos and a Wentzville School District (WSD) alumni of the first graduating class of Timberland High School. My professional background includes accounting, legal research, data analysis, compliance, and streamlining processes and procedures. My greatest strength is a high level of attention to detail. Authenticity, honesty, integrity, respect, and empathy are values that I instill in my children and strive to maintain throughout my personal and professional life.

When I was a student, our district was going through its first big growth spurt, which resulted in frequent re-zoning. I attended five different WSD schools in our district in six years. We were one of the fastest-growing districts in the country, and we were one of the highest rated districts academically. Through the changes and growth, we maintained a top-notch education for students in our community. We prided ourselves on the academic excellence that WSD was known for. As a result, families flocked to our little community.

Unfortunately, over the years, government overreach, bureaucratic micro-management, political ideologies, and special interests have slowly degraded the quality of the education provided to our students. The education industry has been consistently lowering the academic standards, yet our students are still struggling with proficiency in several core subjects. The learning loss that our students have experienced over the last three years due to school closings and quarantines, has only exacerbated the issue. I am running for the Wentzville School District Board of Education because I believe we must do better for our children.

Vision

Importance of Public Education: In America, 90% Of students are enrolled in public schools. Nearly all families in our country rely on this system to provide academic instruction to their children. Private education can be expensive, and homeschooling is not always a feasible option for working families. When the public education system fails, it takes children, families, and communities down with it. When families are trapped in a failing system, it not only robs their children of a proper education, but it robs our country of potential future prosperity. It is a disservice to all. If I am elected, I will work with members of the board to ensure the development of an effective and measurable academic improvement plan with a well-defined baseline, that will improve accountability within the district administration.

Refocus on Education: I want to help repair the damage that the perfect storm of rapid growth, government overreach, and the ‘one size fits all – group think’ approach to education has done to our district. We must respect the moral and ethical authority of parents in their children’s lives. Our district must focus on providing robust academic instruction to build strong minds and encourage the development of tomorrow’s leaders. Big government bureaucracies have been the driving force behind the divisive and demoralizing methods currently being used in education nationwide. Our children do not deserve to be divided, manipulated, overlooked, pitied, patronized, or ideologically separated from each other and their families. They want to be children. They want to learn. They want to be able to build relationships with one another without the constant dull roar from adults in society, telling them the millions of reasons why they should divide themselves. We must allow them to believe what we all know to be true, that their differences and their own unique individuality should be embraced and not used as a tool to divide. As a member of the board, I will lend my legal research, analysis and compliance skills to help find a less divisive and more academically sound path forward for our district.

Improve Learning Environments: Our schools should be a welcoming environment for all students to prosper. We should be identifying each child’s unique learning style, and placing them on an effective path to success. I believe many children in our district struggle to succeed due to a one-size-fits-all approach in the classroom. Many students have an active, hands-on learning style. These students learn more effectively when they can touch, interact with, and relate the information to a real-life application. With the vast majority of classroom environments being more traditional, these active learners cannot reach their full potential. We must equip and empower our educators to do what they do best to reach all students in their classrooms. Offering active learning style courses in core subjects, will enable the cultivation of un-tapped potential in our students. With my experience in streamlining processes and procedures, I can offer new ideas and creative solutions to the board, for improving learning environments for all students.

Safety and Discipline: In order to best serve students and families in this district, we need to reduce classroom distractions, and empower teachers to reclaim their authority and due respect. We must enforce anti-bullying policies consistently, effectively, and equally. Additionally, we need to reinforce our school safety infrastructure and policies to ensure protection of the world’s most precious and irreplaceable asset, our children.

Integrity and Trust: As parents, we all want what is best for our children. We want them to be treated equally, respected, protected, understood, and educated. Parents want to know that their children are safe when they cannot be there to protect them. Parents want to know that their family values, morals, ethics, and faith are not being undermined in the classroom. Parents need to feel confident that they will be contacted if their children are misbehaving, experiencing emotional distress, or struggling academically or socially. Parents need to be able to trust that their ultimate authority and deep understanding of their children will be acknowledged, respected, and utilized to best serve each student. As a member of the board, I will work diligently with other members to ensure district transparency, enhance communication and regain the trust and confidence of parents and stakeholders.

If elected, I will be a voice for parents and stakeholders and an advocate for students. I will be supportive of teachers reclaiming their classrooms to focus on academics. I will work to ensure the elimination of burdensome, bureaucratic, and divisive policies, as well as ideological manipulation in the curriculum. I believe WSD can resurrect the academic excellence this district was once known for, and better prepare our students to lead us into the future.
